What can I do if red wine/kool-aid/punch is spilled on my carpet?

Blot it up with a clean, wet towel.  Preferably a white terrycloth towel.  Do not use any carpet cleaner or chemicals, just use water.  Rinse towel with cold water and keep blotting until towel is no longer red.  Cover with a damp towel and call Michael's Carpet Care at (916) 223-2265 to make an appointment so we can remove the stain.  We have a two-part product that needs to be applied with heat to neutralize the color.

How do you get candle wax out of carpet?

Beware!  Some carpets will melt with heat from iron.  Test this first on a small area.  Cut up pieces (larger than your iron) of the NON-Printed area of a brown paper grocery bag.  Place a piece of paper on the affected area and use an iron set on the lowest setting and put iron on the paper bag for about 30 seconds.  Remove iron and look at bag and wax should transfer onto the bag.  Bag will appear wet.  Repeat with new piece of paper bag until bag no longer appears wet.  Be careful to not burn or melt your carpet.  Caution, this may get wax on your iron.  Be sure to clean your iron by "ironing" a clean paper bag or paper towel afterwards.

Chewing gum on my carpet!

It's a sticky dilemma: What do you do when the Double Bubble lands on your living room carpet? While your natural reaction might be to blow up at the gum chewer in the family, be sweet instead and follow these tips. You'll be out of this mess in no time.  Scrape away as much of the gum as you can using a spatula or spoon (to protect carpet fibers). Vacuum or brush away loose pieces.  Rub the remaining gum with a plastic bag filled with ice until the gum is frozen.  Chip away the frozen gum fragments using a spatula or spoon.  Dissolve any final traces by dabbing with a small amount of dry-cleaning fluid.  Blot.  Blot on a detergent solution of 1/4 tsp. mild dishwashing liquid and 1 cup of warm water.  Rinse well.

Oh no, my carpet is flooded!

Carpet flooding occurs from several unfortunate events - rain storms, toilets, washing machines and bathtubs overflowing, a pipe springing a leak, etc. Most importantly, make sure to shut off your power.  Move  all items from your working area.  Remove the water with a shop vac. After you have removed as much water as possible, pull carpet back and dispose of the water damaged pad.  Disinfect the foundation along with the back and top of your carpet.  You will then need to set up fans and dry both the foundation and your carpet.  If you need help with this process and/or the installation of pad and reinstallation of your carpet please give us a call anytime, day or night, at (916) 223-2265.
